Visit of PSC box girder bridge started at 11:00 AM Dated on 24/04/2018 from Oriental University. Team arrived at visiting place at 12:10 PM. When the team arrived, Mr. Sapan chawla was present there. Under his guidance, Oriental students started their visit as follows:-

Visit of Fly Ash Brick Manufacturing Plant, Indore-Pithampur Road

Visit of fly ash plant started at 8:00 AM Dated on 24/04/2018 from Oriental University. Team arrived at visiting place at 9:00 AM. When the team arrived, Mr. Abhishek was present there. Under his guidance, Oriental students started their visit as follows:-

Directly, the raw material is mixed in mixing chamber. Lime, fly ash, cement and stone chipping are mixed in ratio of 15%, 40%, 3%, 40%. and 2% water.

After mixing, the raw material is directly goes onto the conveyor belt. The raw material then goes into the machine hopper then a load of 150 to 200 tonne is applied.

The raw 10 bricks shifted on tray by the conveyer belt at a time. These tray bricks manually shifted for drying.

The dried bricks are arranged on ground in the form of stacks. After then curing process takes place till the strength achieved as per IS provisions.

Now bricks are ready to use for construction.
Precaution before using the fly ash bricks-
⦁ Dimensions of these bricks should be 19cm x 9cm x 9 cm
⦁ Color should be visibly grey.
⦁ Should be free from any cracks and manufacturing defects.
⦁ Water Absorption should not be more than 10%
⦁ Strength of bricks must be 10-12 N/mm2.

Seminar on Practical Applications of Civil Engineering – Correlation Between Academic Knowledge and Filed Knowledge with Respect to Bridge & Building Construction

The seminar on the above topic was organized in Department of Civil dated on 11/04/2018. The objective of the seminar was to aware the students regarding the the updation of their knowledge after graduation. The design of structure is an important parameter, this parameter play very important role to decide the strength and cost of economy. Strength and cost of building requires skills in field of building and bridge design.

The theme of seminar was to meet out the challenges life of peoples are changing daily by daily. So it its best solution may depends on the use of theoretical and practical/ field knowledge. In this seminar teaches to students, how they use their theoretical knowledge in field as an expert.

As per objective the expert discussed all the aspects of civil engineering design like, concrete structure, steel structure- riveting, bolting, and welding. They covered not only the RCC, RBC and Steel structure; they also covered in detail all the aspect of environmental engineering like water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant site selection, capacity and their installation.

The main focus of seminar was to perform the qualitative work of design of structure. According to control of quality which types of materials should be most suitable and how to select, according to IS codes, discussed in details.

The program was facilitated by SGS INDIA Pvt. Ltd. Dhar. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Sapan Chawla and Mr. S.K.Kanungo

The seminar was organized on the continuous guidance and support of Dr. Dhruva Ghai Hon’ble VC of the University.

Visit of Kabit Khedi Sewage Treatment Plant Indore

To study the geological features at sewage treatment plan.

B. Tech Civil Engineering Students of Oriental University visited at Kabit Khedi sewage treatment plant dated on 14/03/2018.

Sewage treatment site are situated at 22.7784522, 75.8739311. Temperature at site was 300c. Average rainfall is 409 mm.

The plant completes the processing works in seven steps. In first step the sewage water collected in a storage tank. The stored SW sends in the Inlet Chamber with help of main pumping house. In pumping house there is eight pumping unit.

Each pumping unit needed 160kw power and the pumping capacity of pumping unit is 1700 Lit/ hr .The inlet chamber separate the floating and hard material. After separation the SW allowed to Grid chamber.

The water from the grid chamber it passes through Parshall flume to Splitter box. But before entering the Parshall flume, the grid chamber separates the mixer like plastics and others. The main function of splitter box is to remove the gasses like nitrogen and carbon from the swage water.

After the selector unit the water allow to pass the SBR unit. After SBR unit the water allow to chlorination, the chlorination process kill the pathogens. After chlorination the water allowed to mix with the river water. The SWTP capacity is 245 MLD.

WTP manual and automated site are situated at 22.28711826, 75.56911237.Temperature at dam was 320c. Average rainfall is 604 mm.

The capacity of WTP is 363 MLD Water Treatment Plant, Bhaklai and1400 mm dia. GRP Pumping Main from intake to old Treatment plant.

Appx. Length 3.0 KM & 2100 mm, 14 Kms Raw Water Pumping main from Intake Well to WTP at Bhaklai and 6.8 Kms Clear Water rising main from WTP to BP Tank including chambers and all valves.

The Team of students was arrived at plant at 11:00 AM. Firstly we receive by Mr. Mahesh Waskele, Junior Engineer. We started our visit in supervision and guidance of Mr. Waskele.

The key points are as follows:-

  1. Mr. Waskele described the whole project of first and second phase. He guided the whole team about the entire layout of the project.
  2. He divided the team into two groups. One for intake well and other for the filter bed.
  3. The raw water collected into all three Intake wells. The wells used as primary and secondary wells. Each well provided agitator to agitate the water to remove the settled sediments at the bottom of the wells.

B. Tech Civil Engineering Students of Oriental University visited at Omkareshwar dam dated on 11/10/2017. Dam is situated at 22°14′37.26″N 76°9′46.83″E.Temperature at dam was 320c. Average rainfall is 604 mm. The dam was constructed between 2003 and 2007 with the purpose of providing water for irrigation of 132,500 ha (327,000 acres). An associated hydroelectric power station located at the base of the dam has an installed capacity of 520 MW.
The Team of students was arrived at dam at 11:00 AM. Firstly we receive by the Dy. General Manager Mr. Patidar. We started our visit in supervision and guidance of Mr. Patidar. He is basically from electrical engineering department. After that team reach at 2:00 PM at Omkareshwar Bridge.

The key points are as follows:-

  1. Mr. Patidar introduced Mr. Sudhakar rao, he is civil engineer at dam. He guided the whole tem about the project cost 2200 cr.
  2. He explained about the dam capacity 141,547.8 m3. Its use for power generation as well as irrigation including water supply. The total area irrigated by the dam has been 327,000 acres.
  3. Dam was constructed into two parts. One is for flood control and other one is for power generation.
  4. Upstream of dam is separated from divider wall which separates the upstream water.
  5. In flood control unit, there are about 23 radial gates having discharge capacity 65 Cumec.
  6. Electrical production unit having 8 units. Each unit production capacity is 65 KV. Francis turbine used for generation of electricity.
  7. Dam is designed for 87000 Cumec flood control, however 37000 Cumec flood appeared in 2013.
  8. 2000 Cumecs per second water required for operating entire 8 units. It is used as pick power house which can produce the electricity within 4 minutes from the time of start.
  9. Rocks and upper strata at dam site are very porous hence the site is fully treated with shortcrete.
  10. Cable suspension bridge connected with cables and anchored with freyssinet type of system.

Deep information provided by Civil as well as Electrical Engineer obtained by the whole team and will ultimately benefit to the students as well as staff members.
