It’s a great honor and satisfaction for us to pen the preface of this noble project. The lack of proper information to consumers and health care professionals & lack of continuing education programs; it is necessary to have the resources of unbiased Drug and Disease information. DDIC can play an indispensable role in the promotion of rational drug concept and improvement of therapeutic outcomes by dissemination of unbiased and evidence based Drug and Disease information. Though the concept of DDIC is fairly new to India, this DDIC, being the pioneers in this area, attempted to promote the concept throughout the country. I am certain that this DDIC will be pioneers in the area of Drug and Disease information services for all health care professionals. Dr. Neetesh K Jain, Principal and Head, Department of Pharmacology will be the Director of DDIC, Oriental University, Indore.

The purpose of the Drug and Disease Information Center (DDIC) is to serve health care professionals throughout India by answering critical questions on Drug use and its possible side effects. The DDIC routinely responds to inquiries regarding appropriate therapy for specific patients; adverse reactions to drugs; efficacy of drugs; drug interactions; intravenous additive incompatibilities; biopharmaceutical and pharmacokinetic parameters of drugs; dosing in renal failure; appropriate therapy for a disease state; identification of foreign drugs; information on investigational agents; and information on new drugs. The purpose of the service is to provide accurate, current and unbiased drug information in the promotion of rational use of Medicine.  The DDIC will also give information regarding etiology, pathophysiology, treatment management strategies for various disorders and diseases.

It does not restrict its activity just to provide information, it proactively involve in publishing Drug and Disease information bulletin or newsletter, participate in clinical activities, assisting developing formulary and treatment guidelines. Beside these, the DDIC will organize continuing professional development programmes for healthcare professionals in association with Pharmacy Council of India and Public Health and Family Welfare Department, Madhya Pradesh-India. The DIC has the expertise and capacity to evaluate the information available at various sources and provide the relevant and necessary information to the health care professionals and consumers (patients).
