“Leprosy: Breaking Myth” health awareness program was organized

A health awareness program was organized by Faculty of Pharmacy, Oriental University, Indore on “Leprosy: Breaking Myth” in association with Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation, New Delhi on 30th Sep. 2020 through virtual mode.

Welcome of our chief guest Dr. Vivek Lal, CEO, Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation was done by Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. K. L. Thakral Sir and Vice Chancellor Dr. Dhruva Ghai Sir, followed by welcoming the second guest Mr. Aftab Pasha, Assistant Program Manager at Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation by Executive Director Er. Gaurav Thakral Sir and Dean Academics Dr. Garima Ghai Madam.

The program started with the welcoming remark which was delivered by Dean Pharmacy, in which he welcomed all the guests, honorable members of management and participants attending the session.

The introductory speech was given by Dr. Neetesh Jain, Principal, University Inst. of Pharmacy, Oriental University Indore, where he introduced the guests and Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation to the partakers. Following this was blessings that were expressed by Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Dhruva Ghai Sir.

The event commemorated with the first session taken by Mr. Aftab Pasha, in which he explained all the crucial details about leprosy that everyone must know so as to eradicate the myths from mind. He also discussed about deformities that occur due to leprosy and the discrimination that is happening from so many years with affected persons due lack of awareness. At last he tried to demystify all the myths that are present in society and motivated all the participants to spread the awareness among their near ones.

The second session was taken by Dr. Vivek Lal, he is the CEO, Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation. In his discussion, he explained all the basic particulars regarding disease of leprosy such as its causative agent, ways of spreading, deformities that may occur. He gave much emphasis on types of cases that usually comes and organs that get affected due to disease. He also elucidated the available treatment of multi drug therapy (MDT) and physiotherapy needed for patients. Sir discussed about all facilities that Govt. is trying to provide to sufferers like free of cost medicine dose, special shoes etc, and that the only possible way to exterminate the disease is early start of drug therapy.

The felicitation of the Dr. Vivek Lal was done by Vice chancellor Dr. Dhruva Ghai Sir, followed by felicitation of Mr. Aftab Pasha by Dr. Garima Ghai Mam as a token of respect and appreciation.

At last the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sumeet Dwivedi, Asso. Professor, OCPR, Oriental University, Indore. Event was coordinated by Dr. Sumeet Dwivedi and Ms. Urvashi Sharma and entire team of Faculty of Pharmacy.
