Welcome to Central Library, Oriental University

The Oriental University Central Library is the soul of the institution and it is started acquiring, processing, preserving and disseminating information to the user community with the motto of empowering knowledge. It has a wide collection of more than 42000 books, Scientific and technical journals and electronic reference material which is regularly updated. The Central Library is consisting of a Reference Section, Circulation Section, Multimedia Section, and Reading Section, and Periodical Section. The University Central Library has automated all its library activities to provide effective and wide range of academic resources such as books, journals, online databases, DVDs and other useful materials.

Note:

  • Borrowing privileges are given only to the Faculty, Visiting Faculty, Research scholars, Staff, and Students those who are registered in the library.
  • Books can be issued only against ID issued by the Oriental University to the borrowers.
  • Reference books, loose issues of journals, periodicals, newspapers, and technical reports will not be issued to take out of the library.

  • Faculty and Student community can retrieve online information relating to all academic activities from the dedicated terminals situated in the library under digital library programme.
  • OPAC Services

Library Open Access: All the library members have partial open access to library documents. This facility is granted to library members to encourage their reading habits and to promote the maximum use of library documents. Click here to access the online bibliography database of the University library through the internet for checking particular titles by author’s name or keyword. Library catalogue has been computerized through Autolib, Auto-Lib ERP Software, in an integrated Library Management Software with barcoded/RFID Technology developed by R. N. Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Library catalogue can also be searched using a common web browser from any terminal located on the campus.

Library Rules

  1. Library is a place for quiet study and users of the library are not allowed to talk on phone or create any noise inside the library premises.
  2. Users should submit their bags at the property counter and should not take their own books inside the library premises.
  3. Library premises cannot be used for functions and events without prior written permission of the university authority and the library committee.
  4. Users should not damage documents or any other properties of the library.
  5. Library documents taken out for consultation from shelves should not be restored to the shelves by users; they should be left on the reading tables in the library.
  6. Maintain decorum and sit properly.
  7. Readers leaving the library should allow the library/security staff to examine reading material and their personal belongings.
  8. Please take care of the safety of issued materials from the library. If anyone is found doing so, he/she will be charged the full replacement cost of the material.
  9. Personal papers and non-library materials should not be left unattended on tables.
  10. Do not move books/journals from their designated places to other locations.
  11. If one book of a set is damaged or lost, the member concerned shall be liable to replace the whole set.
  12. An overdue charge of Rs. 2/- per volume per day is chargeable.

Please Do

  • Visitors are required to enter the details in the register kept at the checkpoint before entering the library.
  • Readers leaving the library should allow the library/security staff to examine reading material and their personal belongings.
  • Please contact the on-duty staff for queries.
  • Please keep the library premises clean.

Fines and Penalties

1. The following charges shall be recovered for each library document retained more than the period of loan from the borrower.

a) Books:

b) Library documents issued for overnight: Rs.5/- per day during overdue.
iii) Library suspends to issue new books, if the student is overdue two or more books at
one time. The suspension will remove as soon as he/she clears all his/her overdue.

Books Lost: The member shall report immediately to the Librarian loss of any library document(s) borrowed from the library. The following charges shall be recovered for the loss of library document(s).

  1. A. General book: Replacement or the current price plus Rs. 100/- as processing fee.
  2. B. Textbook, multi-volumes book, and reference book: Replacement or current price plus Rs. 100/- as processing fee. The cost of the complete set shall have to be paid along with the fine for the loss of a single volume if it is not available separately.
  3. C. Bound volume of periodicals: Replacement or five times the cost of the volume plus Rs. 100/- as processing fee.
  4. D. Overdue fine charges are in addition to all the above charges.

Damage or Mutilation: Replacement or repairs or the cost of the document plus fine up to Rs. 100/-.

Unauthorized Removal of Library Documents: Removing library documents without getting them properly issued is a serious misdemeanor, and the Librarian shall have powers to impose a fine up to Rs. 100/-.

Reprographic Services (Print, Scan and Photocopying):

1. Print and Scan services can be offered between 09:30 A.M to 03:30 P.M for all the students for Rs. 3/- per page.
